Hi I have a Samsung s9 plus everything works well have been using openvpn and now wireguard.
I have client monitor running in the background so it connects whenever I change to LTE but in the last couple of weeks the monitor is using the bulk of my battery almost halving the life time just sitting there not connected. Is there anything I can do to improve this?
The phone gets a restart twice a week everything is up to date.

Hello,
do you mean auto connect monitor?
If so, it's very strange because this service register only a receiver to get the network changes events and show a foreground notification icon. So this service should consume CPU only when receive a network change event. Moreover, this service has not changed in the latest releases.
Anyway I will made some tests...

Hi thanks for the reply, yes I meant auto connect monitor.
I know makes no sense to me too.
Funny thing is it shows 0 m Active and 21 h 5 m Background for yesterday.
I can tell you I was connect for a little less than an hour in total yesterday.
Going back through history the most time it shows Active is 2m's
It could very well be something to do with a Samsung update as I'm diligent about updates and have seen other issues crop up before, My phone is fairly clean not very many apps at all and all the facebook and other crap has been removed, Signal, Email, Telegram, Tmux, and music is about the height of my use.

You're welcome.
I've done some testing and the auto connect service seems to work as expected and only consuming the CPU when it receives network change events.
Are you able to use Android's logcat development tool?
If so, you can check the events regarding network changes in the log.
They are normally tagged as ConnectivityService.
This information could help to understand what's going on...

i can confirm that the auto connect monitor also consumes a lot of battery power for me. although i am in the home office most of the time and almost never change the network or vpn is active.

Maybe you have activate the "Acquire WakeLock" option.
Please try to follow these steps:
- tap on "Auto connect" button
- unselect "Aquire WakeLock" option

You're welcome.
The "Acquire WakeLock" option can be used on devices that kills background services aggressively.
On some devices this option has the side effect of excessive battery drain.

Thanks that seems to have been the solution.
