no remote network access with cellular network vpn connection

When connected to a WiFi with my Android devce, I can see local IP addresses on the remote network the VPN client is connected without adding any routes to the vpn profile. When the Android device is connected to the cellular network, I cannot see any local IP addresses on the remote network the VPN client is connected to. I don't see the difference why one instance works and the other does not they are both connected to the same remote network via VPN client. Can someone explain? Do I need to add a route to the VPN profile when using a cellular network for the VPN client connection?

maybe there's a problem with an ISP firewall or packet size (MTU).
Which VPN protocol are you using?
